The Influnce Of Using Role Play Technique On Student Speaking Ability In Grade 7 At SMP Negeri 7 Pematang Siantar

The purpose of this research is to find out the effect of using Role Play Technique on students’ speaking ability at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 7 Pematangsiantar. This research used a quantitative approach with a true experimental design. The population of this research was seventh grade students consisting of two classes, namely the experimental class (VII-2) and the control class (VII-3), with a total of 64 students. The sample was taken using a total sampling technique. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test. The experimental class was taught by using Role Play Technique, while the control class was taught by using the conventional method. The data were analysed using SPSS version 27.0. The results of the research showed that the mean score of the experimental class in the post-test (73.38) was higher than the control class (65.97). Furthermore, the hypothesis testing showed that t-count = 52.531 > t-table = 1.671 at the significance level of 0.05, which means that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted.Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of using Role Play Technique on students’ speaking ability. The use of Role Play Technique is effective in improving students’ speaking performance at the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 7 Pematangsiantar
